Mama I'm coming home, for the last time?

Been so so long since I last wrote anything, been kinda on hiatus for a while living my life and chugging along this road. I don't actually think anyone reads this anymore (I think at my height of popularity there were maybe 2) but alas, this is kinda for me to save for my own record and was never really meant to serve any other purpose. I like reading back on some of my prior posts...oh the anger! But hell, we've had a lot to be angry about over the past few years. Feeling that blood pump reminds you that you're alive and well in this world. But nonetheless, funny to remember that time and place, but still there are things that get me boiling today (as illustrated below).

I still look up funny ass video clips (I highly recommend BREAK.COM for anyone who is like-minded) and I'm still just as political as I've always been. And of course I'm watching this upcoming election like a redneck watching NASCAR, minus the beer and wife-beating. But today I'm writing about my grand return to the great state of Michigan. I will be there for the first time in 2 years, arriving exactly one month from today. This time though, I smartened up a bit. I'll be renting a car from the airport as soon as I land, and will be keeping my wheels until right before I board my flight back home to Portland-land. Automobile independence is key to a happy "me" in Michigan. Also, this will be my partner's first time there, to experience all the glory that is the Great Lake State. He's been a little frightened of my tales of the homeland (he is from Montana), and this will be his first time within an environment such as Saginaw. But anyhoo, we will be braving the forest.

So I've had a bit of an aversion to traveling back to my home state. Not fully sure why, I mean I've missed my family and the few friends I still manage to maintain contact with there. But still, for the longest time I'd just get a very slight sick feeling when I'd think of going back there. After 8 years here, has Oregon made me soft? I guess we'll see when I get there, eh? But since buying my tickets home, the feeling had diminished and I could genuinely say that I have excitment to go back. It will be nice to get a reminder of my old life, and I'll actually be celebrating my 31st b-day there. I haven't had a birthday in Michigan since 2000. So this will be a bit of a milestone for me. And there are 2 new babies that I haven't yet seen, so that will be nice. But then a little chat I had with someone slapped me back into reality and reminded me of why I got the hell out.

I had a bit of a strange comment at a birthday party I was at last night regarding my upcoming visit. It was with a younger woman, who happens to be a lesbian and partnered for several years. They are you quintessential upwardly-mobile young queer folks (GUPPIES), she's teaching at the local university and her partner is finishing up medical school. But she stated that unfortunately she "can not and will not" visit Michigan, as it has some of the most aggressive anti-gay laws of any state in our union. Then my mind went back to that stupid-ass constitutional ammendment the voters passed in 2004 which:

" made the union between a man and a woman the only agreement recognized as a marriage "or similar union for any purpose." Those six words led to the court fight over benefits for gay couples. "

And guess what, on May 8th the Michigan Supreme Court has ruled that universities, private companies, ANY entity that had previously offered benefits for same-sex couples are not allowed to do so based on the decision made by Michigan's voters. So basically, gay people cannot ever provide health insurance coverage for their partner, regardless of what the employer will permit. This absolutely disgusts me. And I had tried to justify this as "well, this must be an unintended consequence that the voters could not have been able to foresee". But when you look at those above words "or similar union for any purpose", there is no way any half-wit wouldn't be able to foresee what this law would do. And still, a large majority actually voted to make this hatred not just law, but they made it a PART OF THE FUCKING CONSTITUTION.

So if a gay couple from California, Oregon, Washington, Vermont, Massachusetts, or any of the other states who actually give rights to committed gay couples, if they were to visit Michigan and one of the two was critically injured, the other partner has no rights. The hospital could deny visitation, regardless of the relationship and life they have together. There are several nightmare scenarios that could happen to a queer couple in the state, it goes much farther than health insurance. This saddens me more than I can express, but mostly because of what this really means to the big picture of my future travels to that state...there will be none.

Until that amendment is overturned, I will not step foot in that state again. This is going to be an extremely hard conversation to have with my family, but I really feel that this is an important stand that I have to make. As a gay man, as an American, this is something that I cannot compromise on. I will buy my parents tickets every two years to fly out here, but as a matter of principle I cannot let this go. And I want to make sure that those in my family who voted for this measure (and I know there are at least a few) know the extent of oppression they are responsible for. I want them to think of the sick man who lies in pain with no medical care, the woman who looses her house and has to declare bankruptcy due to an unexpected cancer, all because of the hatred they voted to make a part of their state's constitution. All because that person is gay, because that person is like me. Some will think I'm being a bit dramatic, but I will tell them to get a fucking clue. Until you have been that person, you do not know.

Suddenly, that sick feeling is back.

So wow, another conservative involved in a nasty little sex scandal. So how many republicans has it been over the past year? Now you must click on every purple link her to actually get the stories. You couldn't make this shit up. So first, the one everyone heard about...the infamous man himself Mark Foley...gay as shit and trying to hit it with an underage intern. Classy, and he was such a "republican protector of the children." Yeah right pervert. Then there was "diaper" David Vitter, the republican senator from Louisiana who was all about family values. Couldn't say enough nasty things about Bill Clinton for the whole Lewinski thing. Such a patron saint, right? Who would have guessed the asshole was a fucking JOHN! An admitted prostitute regular, who liked to wear fucking DIAPERS with his whores!! Funny thing, no calls for his resignation (but he's not queer, so not as bad as WEARING DIAPERS right?). Next, Florida Republican Rep Bob Allen, also the head of grandpa McCain's Florida election committe, was busted trying to pay a MALE cop money to let the fat bastard suck his dick (but the cop was scary and black, so here was so scared that he had to ASK HIM IF HE COULD GIVE HIM MONEY TO SUCK HIS DICK!) Sorry state of racial relations today, huh?

So how could this get any worse...well it did with the most recent of republican "hollier than thou" fuckers. Another fucking disgusting hypocrite, REPUBLIAN Larry Craig...Senator for the great bigotted state of Idaho...was busted trying to solicit gay sex in the bathroom of an airport.

Now I've heard this "pro-family, anti-gay, christian" asshole was gay for years on the liberal blogs, testimonials from his "tricks" and all. But no, no sucha thang missis Celie! So WOW...how's that for you. Again, those of us in the know, actually knew the truth! (Kinda like the Iraq war!!!...and that was in the YEAR leading up to it you fucking ignorant assholes! I do blame you, BUSH VOTERS) Still haven't forgotten that, and never will, and yes, you must pay for years to come...you know who you are.

So pay attention idiot Americans! Do you see a pattern here? Assholes, preaching hate against against gay people, in order to gain the IGNORANT VOTE. And what do they have to show for it? THIS...another repblican hypocrite. And this one, a pastor who hated HOMOSEXUALS, and by god...he ended up being a prostitute hiring pervert. The sheer happiness I get from this kind of story is amazing. Its so great to let his facade of hatred crumble and fall. False Idols Shall Fall By The Wayside. And they do, and they will.

The Ignorant ASSHOLE republicans have built their own prison, and by god may that rot in it. They have used the hatred of differences as a base of their belief system, their "base", and now those very same differences are coming to bite them in the ass. And they will continue to gnaw until every last one of them has fallen off into shame. BURN IN HELL FUCKERS.

Another G.W. rant...sorry if I offend...but I must. So....

Hello all!

So something still boggles my mind after all these many years of reality that have been flung in our faces. At this point, how could someone still support W? He is currently the third least popular president in American History, and he's only like 3 points from becomming the most unpopular in our entire history of polling this question. (Little side note...guess who's #4 in line for that honor....the other Bush, big daddy himself). So with like 18 months to go, I have no doubt in my mind that he will make it, finally....number one at something, right?

Now where my mind gets boggled is the fact that 25% of the american public still approve of this murder. This liar, this deceiver, this rich fuckhead who is responsible for killing almost 3,500 Americans and approximately 150,ooo iraqi's....but they don't matter right? What about 9-11 huh? Fucking commie liberals...just want to lay down and take it. Don't think, just act! That's the american way right? We can kill 3 million gukes and the world keeps turning....so what's a couple of HUNDRED-Thousand brown people. Their scum, just terrorists...and remember, their not white christians, and republicans only count them as1/2 a person, dont' they at this point? So that's only about 75,000 "real" people we've killed.

Guess what that shows us....republicans are bigotted murderes. Period. No sugar coating. No way to look them in the eye and pretend to understand their point of view anymore. They are not in favor of individual rights...they have become the facists of today. They support anything the government wants to do to the people, as long as they claim it is in the name of "national security". How dumb must you be. And, believe me...I'm related to a few of these people who still like the guy (W incase you forgot). So please kin folk, forgive me when I say you are fucking stupid, and probably don't even deserve the right to vote anymore. HOW DUMB MUST YOU BE?

This whole administration has been shown to be the most corrupt in american history, every fucking aspect of it. Over, and over, and over, and over again. How many times must you see it before your thick ass heads can agree. TURN OFF FOX NEWS, they lie. And some of you have actually attended at least a little bit of college, so are you choosing ignorance on purpose? Is it easier that way? Do you hate gay people enough and do you feel SO strongly against a women's right to choose that you'd support a "nazi-esque regime" in order to attain these goals? THERE IS NOTHING "CHRISTIAN" ABOUT G.W. BUSH. Where is your brain? No saving graces, nothing positive to be remembered by. How in the hell are you hanging on to this man's rhetoric? TREASON, you are comitting treason. The founding fathers would spit in your face, and then ask for your hanging.

I hope to god when this administration ends, they are CRIMINALLY prosecuted. Nothing less would suffice. I'd love to see G.W. in a middle eastern prison. I'd make me crack a smile and put that gleem back in my eye. And if you disagree (I'll be the tyrant for this moment!) you should be prosecuted too. Charged, IGNORACE, HOMICIDAL ignorace, for your idiocy has contributed to the thousands of deaths that this war has caused. "Dixie Traitors"...remember that? Merely because these EDUCATED women did not believe that America should ATTACK A NATION UNPROVOKED? They were threatened, boycotted, and ridiculed. IDIOTS. 30 and still kickin! Where's the beef?

(Haven't written in a whilel, been busy.....sorry, New House. So much for new year's resolution eh?)

So this evening, after midnight, I turned 30 years old. Not a big deal, right...still kinda young. Well, at least according to anyone older than 30. Both of my best friends and my partner have all turned 30 during the past 9 months. So I've basically felt 30 for quite a while now, by witnessing so many of my own pass that milestone. BUT, now that I'm actually the big 3-0, I don't really feel any different. So what gives?

Age is just a number, right? So why don't I feel this actual shifting of the grounds...no life changing realizations. I mean, I've met the superficial goals of this age that I had set for myself...I have a house and I'm well planted in a career with a master's degree. I have a cute dog, and live in a great city. I love my family, and have their full support and acceptance regarding who I am and who I love (something I'd tirelessly worry about prior to comming out at age 18). Everything is where I had wanted it to be in my 17 year old brain...foretelling my life while putting away frozen food at Kessel's on State street. I'm living with someone who loves me. Not just the "me" I put out durring everyday conversation and function, but he loves ALL of me. Every fucking nook and cranny. He accepts it all and treats me like the king of all shit, and lucky am I to have found that. So, put a check on that box.

So yeah, things are looking pretty good. I might be now entered into my next decade, but I'm ready and willing to go wherever that may take me. Maybe a child...but maybe not. We'll see. I kinda like having the freedom I do, and I'm not sure how I'd handle the change....but being a part of another life on this planet may be enought to entice. And I'd raise a good one, presidential material. So why deprive the world right? So within this posting, I guess I've answered what 30 means...it's just a time to take stock. See what you have, versus what you want, if anything just becuase the first digit has changed. So for that, I don't feel sad and I'm ready to push on full speed ahead. Can't wait till I'm 40, and what sorts of shit I'll be writing then.

Good night and good luck. And I do love today's political climate, the dems have taken over and we'll see what happens. President Obama, but maybe Pres H. Clinton, with VP Obama. I'd be happy with either. Keep you fingers crossed and VOTE! Either way, NO MORE REPULICANTS!!!!

Last night's Grammy Awards were like watching the superbowl for me. I absolutely loved seeing the Dixie Chicks win all awards they were up for...including the TOP THREE CATEGORIES OVERALL! They deserved this so much, and I hope Nashville is hanging it's bigotted, ignorant, inbread, uneducated, mullet having head today. And the Chick's performace was really good. One a whole, the Grammy's were a little better this year...somewhat faster paced with more emphasis on actual music performances. I had been waiting to see the Chicks kick some ass at last nights show since their album came out. There is no denying, Taking The Long Way is a GREAT album, EVERY SONG is good....and that is a rarity. This wasn't merely a "political statement" by the music industry (as right wingnuts...or my new favorite "conservatards" are undoubtedly going to be using as their "GOP talking point of the day), but these ladies deserved every single award they got. Let me steal a line (or gesture) by the late, great Johnny Cash after he won his grammy a few years ago "FUCK YOU NASHVILLE". Your time has passed, either evolve or become even more obsolete than you already are.

Wether or not she off'ed herself or not, she was ready to go...at least in a way. She lost the love of her life...her son. He gave her a strength she could never replace with anyone else, and she knew it. And all the attention payed to her every move, the constant negative coverage...and she was being sued by approximately 3 different entities at this point in time...the woman had some abnormal stressprs knocking at the door. She was an actual victim of the American way...born white trash...escalated to almost "royalty" type status in America, then was torn down by the actual system that made her. She was the epidemy of the underdog. Some of us actually kinda rooted for her, and some of us honestly are sad that she is gone. Rest in Peace Anna, and godspeed angel. Just a quick link to a posting from the "Daily Kos" blog about that 2004 same-sex marriage ban that was passed by the voters in Michigan. I'm from there, still have many people I love who live there...so it causght my eye. Well folks, it is having sweeping consequences that go far beyond simply protecting the "sanctity of marriage" in the Great Lakes State. The law prohibits any form of civil unions, and even the existance of health insurance benefits, ANY TYPE of benefits for a same-sex partner...even if it was previously offered by an employer. That law makes me ashamed to be from that place and reminds me of why I got the hell out and will never live there again.

Granted, Oregon passed a similiar law that same year (Measure 36). But the big difference was that the Oregon law only definied "marriage", it did nothing to prohibit civil unions or partner benefits of any kind. And it didn't pass by that much (43.5% opposed the ban) and that was after Multnomah County (YAY PORTLAND!) and Benton County started actually marrying gay couples. So if the Oregon vote had failed, we would have had FULL GAY MARRIAGE rights in this state...meaning that 43.5% of Oregonians were in favor of immediate gay MARRIAGE rights in our state in 2004. And now, we're expected to have a real civil unions law passed in Oregon fairly soon. It would have happened earlier, but the Republican controlled State House of Representatives would not even let the civil unions bill come to a floor vote last year. Well, now the Dems have taken back the Oregon House and an actual vote is not far away. And Govenor Kulongoski has stated he will sign it into law. GOD I LOVE THE WEST COAST!

While Michigan had no "gay marriage threat" looming. The citizens (59 %) voted for this measure strictly out of hatred for gay people. There is no other way to phrase it...it was a vote of complete hatred and bigotry. And what hurts me is that I KNOW several members of my own family voted for this measure. That's the type of shit that makes me not want to really to be back there that often.

So anyhoo, on a brighter note on that topic...a "gay marriage ban" failed for the first time this past election cycle in Arizona. This show's how much the general public is evolving on this issue. Time will tell, but my guess is that we will have full gay marriage rights within the next 10-20 years. So we can be just as unhappy as the rest of yous! :)

Hey there. Sorry I haven't posted more recently, but I've been SHIT ASS busy with the house, work, puppy, and just trying to maintain somewhat of a personal life. But I came across this Dan Savage article regarging Mary Cheney, and her "controversial" lesbian pregnancy. He does a great job at pointing out the bitch's disgusting display of hipocracy. Point is, SHE WORKS TO FURTHER A POLITICAL PARTY THAT HATES HER, and does not think she is fit to raise a child. She's a stupid asshole. Period. And check out these clips from the Daily Show about how ol'Dickie himself responds to these attacks on his daughter from his own handlers. Basically he doesn't.

Only 13 days until me and Justin leave for KEY WEST!!!!! WOO FUCKING HOO! We are both in need of a vacation and niether of us has ever been there. It will be nice to leave Portland, house, work, dog, responsibility behind for 5 days...and sit on the beach and have a margarita! I hope it's nice when we're there, but even if it's a little rainy...we'll still have a great time. With all this fucked up climate shit going on...who knows anymore. It's cold when it's supposed to be hot, hot when it's supposed to be cold...etc. Everyone seems to have accepted that global warming is a reality, except of coarse the idiots in the Whitehouse.

And lastly, check out this "Special Comment" by one of my personal hero's Keith Olbermann. The man is a genius and says things that other broadcasters are scared to say. ***REMEMBER FOLKS**** his show Countdown with Keith Olbermann is on Monday thru Friday night's 8pm (Eastern), 5pm (Pacific)...then again at midnight (Eastern), 9pm (Pacific)...on MSNBC. His news show is the best on TV right now, I don't miss it when I'm home by 5pm (8pm eastern time). Anyways, enought of the gooing...Olbermann basically disects the the lies that Shrubby spewed during his State of the Union catastrophe. I actually watched it...and my god, baby Bush is truly a pathetic soul. May he burn eternally for all the pain, death, and destruction he is personally responsible for. Karma's a bitch...and to think of what that man has coming his way. I wouldn't want to be in an elevator with the bitch.

Snowed in!!!!

So it's snowing here in Portland and the city is basically shut down. There's no way I could make it to work this morning, but the shittiest thing is that my new house is supposed to finish closing today and we are set to get the keys tonight at 5pm. I HATE MOTHER FUCKING NATURE! All I know is that I had better still get those keys at 5pm. We've already moved tons of shit into an outdoor structure in the back yard, just waiting to be moved inside. So this is the second "snow storm" to hit this season, a definite reality that something is not right with today's weather patterns. In the previous six winters this has happened maybe three times total, and here it is...only mid January already two blizzards. (Mind you, blizzard in Portland means 2-4 inches!) And Portland's road crews can't use salt on the roads because all the street drainage systems lead directly into the Willamette River. So basically we're at the mercy of the snow melting in order for our roads to be passable. And with all the hills, my little bubble car couldn't even dream of driving to work in these conditions, cuz lord knows this Michigan boy has done his fair share of driving in wintery conditions...but WITH SALTED ROADS and flat land.

Now, onto a bit of poli-news-culture shit. Funny music video regarding the hopefully upcoming impeachment of Shithead Bush. Only watch if you have a decent connection, as it's a few minutes long. And this classic "I'm a Nazi" by Mr. Rush Limbaugh. That song just gets better every time I hear it. Also, Barak Obama has basically announced his candidacy for president. I hope he runs, but something tells me that he may end up the potential Vice Prez...for either Hillary or John Edwards, or even Al Gore. Obama is young and has only been in the Senate a few years, so starting at the VP level would be fine and basically set him up for the office next. But if he does end up with the nomination, I would be fucking ecstatic. He is a wonderfully charasmatic speaker and can move people. His "name" is already being exploted by right wing nutjobs, and the fact that his middle name is Hussein only gives them more fuel to the fodder. But the American people are too smart for that type of manipulative bullshit...at least in the blue states! But all in all, any variation of those names would make me happy.

I truly do not believe that a republican has a chance at the white house this next election. The republicans are seen as pretty much incompetent, greedy, nutball liars and the people will still remember come November 2008. There's idiot "newly conservative" flip-flopper" McCain who seems to be losing popularity and relevance by the day. "Maverick" no more since he's been licking Jerry Falwell's nasty ass and embraced Bush's new Iraq disaster...I mean plan. Then there's scandal ridden and "socially liberal" Guiliani (who by the way will never get the nomination because he does NOT rate well in the more bigotted red states...AKA the south. I guess he just doesn't hate gays enough and has the gall to think that a woman has a right to choose. And let's not forget that he's from "new york city", that evil bastion of progressive civilization....so basically his nomination is pretty much dead in the water. And Mitt Romney, my god he's a mormon....need I say more? He may as well have a a pentagram on his forehead. The psycho-christians on the right will never truly embrace a mormon. They still see mormonism as a kind of cult...and I do kind of agree. Tons of Mormons out here in Oregon, nice folks but WEIRD fucking beliefs.

Alrighty folks, I'm back to watching the news and wating to hear about my house process. Send good energies my way! I should be a bonafide homeonwner by the end of the day. YAY FUCKING YAY! Falling into place!!!! HOME HOME HOME!!!!

Highty-how folks, how's it hanging out there in "everywhere-elseville"? Just spent the earlier part of my day dealing with the mental health peeps in lockup, but then we met with our contractor and spent some time in our new house. It was soooo fucking nice to spend a few hours in there and get used to the feel of the place. And we got a better idea on what fixes need to be done now, and what can wait a bit. Home ownership is fairly complicated but so exciting and fills you with much joy and yearning! I know one thing, I'm gonna enjoy my palace because I'm not really gonna be able to afford to enjoy anything else for a while!!! House poor is better than "no house" poor. Little Olive will be a much happier dog once she has her own yard and space to call her own. I love having a dog again...it's been a while. It's a bit trying at times, but once she's past the puppy stage she'll be a different dog. But I'm afraid we're rasing a bit of a "titty baby". She's never left alone because we literally can't. Not until we move into our house...the apartment we're in is technically a "no pet" apartment. But Fuck them...we're moving so I don't care if we break the rules for a few weeks.

Now on the "homefront"...boy do we got alot of work ahead of ourselves in making that place what it can be. But it will be worth it, we'll create a beautiful home. The closing could happen as early as next week, possibly by Tues or Weds....which would fucking rock! I'm taking care of my final bank business on Monday, so all should be clear from there. And the owners want to close immediately. Closing by Thursday would give us one week of overlap time between the apartment and the house. We've already got most of our shit packed up in boxes, and some of the hardcore cleaning has been started....but we've got a long row to hoe. I've lived in this tiny ass apartment for two years total, but the two of us grown ass men have been sharing this one space for about a year. So needless to say, shit's gotten slightly funky. I mean I kept it clean, but I need to get my entire damage deposit back so we are gonna scour this place "till it shines like the top of the Christler Building" (little throwback to any fellow ANNIE fans out there! You know who you are).

So I just got back from the store and bought plenty of party supplies!!! Oops, did I say party, I meant 7 different types of cleaning supplies and scrubbies. This weekend will smell like bleach. Yes folks, eyes will sting and skin will burn, but by God this place will be clean. Not my idea of a relaxing weekend but oh well...life's a challenge at times but you must rise to the occasion. It also is kinda more sucky by the fact that both of us have to work tomorow...so it was only gonna ge a one day weekend anyways. Boo fucking hoo right...I just got a fucking house!!! YAY!!!

SO enough of the bitching....my weekend could be much worse. I mean, what if I was a malaysian child working 16 hr days for pennies an hour to support my sick grandma and two siblings. For the price of a cup of coffee a day, you could lift me to utter posperity!!! Fucking Americans...never happy are we! Well, count me as one of the "Happy" americans cuz my ass is finally getting a house! And a house in a good neighborhood, close in towards downtown, in wonderful Portland Oregon. Land of the free and flighty, "Little Beruit" as the Bush clan has come to call it, and surprisingly the residents for the most part wear that lable with pride. I love Portland. This definitely isn't Kansas, and that's exactly why I'm here (Justin too, literally...he moved here from Kansas!).

YAY!!! Today marks the return of the Democrats to the majority in both houses of the legislative branch. Maybe now the republican exucutive and republican courts will have a little oversight and hear an actual objection once in a while. And we now have our first female Speaker of the House! And Barney Frank (out gay congressman from Mass.) is now the heads of the House's financial services committee...which makes him the most politically powerful gay person in the history of our government ("out" gay at least!). Today is a good day to be an American!

Check out this "special comment" by Keith Olbermann regarding Bush's plan to send more young Americans into harms way, and some to their deaths. Not to save a democracy but in order to save his political ego. I hope to god with this nightmare presidency is over the Bush Administration will be prosecuted for international war crimes. They cannot get away with what they did, in the name of the tens of thousands of lives that have ended over this illegal and immoral war.

Also, keeping an eye on the health of Democratic Senator Tim Johnson's health. He's the Senator from South Dakota that had a brain hemorrage. If he resigns, the state's govenor will get to appoint a senator (and he'll appoint a repubican) until a special election would be held in two years. The 50-50 tie would give the republicans the Senate Majority due to DICK(head) Cheney's voting power in the case of a tied Senate. His survival in the Senate will mean so much for this country and getting our government back on the right track. Keeping you in our thoughts Senator Johnson!

That title pretty much sums up the highlight of my work day. BUSY BUSY BUSY in the field of mental health these days. Post-holiday meltdowns tend to leave folks in a less than functional mental status. And have I fucking seen it. Take scab lady for instance, she's been in for 4 days, and each day has been different. I call her scab lady because it looks like the got into a fight with a mulberry bush. She's got gross scratches and scabs on her arms and head, so I knew she was either batshit crazy and fought the police or she was a meth head. So the first day...completely ape shit batty, all over the place. Not one foot was firmly planted on any part of this plane. Second day...still somewhat apeshit batty but not quite as crazy as the day before. Third day...she's completely normal. Talking about her family, living situation, and the "misunderstanding" that landed her in her current predicament (in a smock, jail infirmary). She had court, and there was a pretty good possibility she could have gotten out after her hearing. But alas she was still there when I printed up my roster today, still in her blue dress...and in tip top shape, let me tell you. This morning she came out and immediately started crying, talking about all sorts of shit, and then at some points she'd start to whisper and look around all paranoid like. She was definitely not in a good place, so in the blue dress and infirmary she shall remain. And upon further testing, traces of methamphetamine were still in her system. Surprise surprise. That drug is so fucking nasty....warn all those you know to steer clear of that disgusting substance. If you thought crack could make people ugly, meth can make you mother-fucking-nastily-UGLY. Outside and in. I wonder which version of scab lady I'll see tomorow! Can't wait.

SO THUS FAR, today remains the day of the crazy lady with the gross scabs. But the day is still chugging along so onto bigger and better things. No more word on the house shit...still in holding mode until the closing. Puppy remains intact, cute and becomming more vocal by the day. Terriers are definitely their own type of being. Hope all is well out in the universe. Funny thing, Bush, yes...the decider himself, has "written" and opinion editorial piece that ran in the Wall Street Journal today. He does his best to plead his case for insanity and illegal policies, and tries to bait the Democrats a bit. I don't know what's funnier..."W" thinking he has any say over what the congress does at this point....or that this administration could fathom that people would actually believe that shrubby could WRITE an op-ed piece long enough for an actual publication. The man is clearly much too stupid for that. Remember folks, this is a man who stated the highlight of his presidency so far was catching a big fish in his "fake ranch" lake in good ol'Texas. Put that in the history books.

What a year what a year what a fucking year!!!! This has been my first x-mas in Oregon, and this has been a great one, one of the greatest. I'm with a wonderful partner who I love SO MUCH, we're buying a home, and we have a new addition to the family...little miss Olive, a Rat Terrier Justin gave me on Christmas day. Don't laugh those of you who may think "oh, a rat terrier, what a pussy dog", lest you know that these beautiful dogs are exsquisite ratters and can even chase off a fucking bear. Plus I hate fucking rodents and my little girl will rip the shit out of any vermin that dare step foot in my yard...better than a dozen cats!!! Hunters!!! They are work horse motherfuckers and we are gonna raise her up real well. She was our own little christmas miricle, manger and all. Well, ranch in southwest Washington...but almost a manger. She's almost 8 weeks old, and it's been amazing to see how much she's grown in just the week we've had her. She's asofuckinglutely cute as hell.

We're scheduled to close on the house on the 17th of next month, but I'm pushing for an earlier closing date and I hope to be in by the 10th. We've already got round one of renovations in the planning phase and have been buying materials and having contractors bid. All the adult shit that comes with home ownership. We've purchased some great antique wood pieces (TV Armoire, table and chairs, old-assed antique wood teacher's desk and an 8 foot wood cabinet that works perfect for DVD and STERIO CABINET!!!!) and a washer and dryer, etc. We've been good holiday consumers...but mainly for ourselves. God bless America, capitalism, and the mighty dollar. We got all that christmas shopping done in November and sent home to the family before thanksgiving. But we're still broke as shit on a stick. Homes are fucking expensive, and boy do we have our work cut out for us with this beautiful "diamond in the rough" we are purchasing. We really got the "ugliest house on the nicest block" sort of purchase. Honestly, it's in a much nicer area than I could have hoped to buy a house in, especially as a first time homeowner. Thank god and hallay-fucking looyaHHH!!!!!! We deserve it and we worked out asses off to get it. I intend to keep a full digital camera recording of the home renovation process and I will either be posting on the blog or linking to a page from the blog...either way, those of you who would care to see our progress will be able to do so.

Work is well, play is well, and I'm sleeping great with my man and my dog. Who by the way are sitting alone becasue I'm over here typing on the computer. So I must bid goodbye for now, so I can go snuggle with my honey's! But my newyear's resolution is to keep this blog afloat and current. So fucking excited! We're about a half hour away from leaving for the opening night of Wicked (the broadway show) here in Portland. I think it's a hometown girl playing the lead...I haven't been to a play or musical in so long. I'm really looking forward to it. Gonna grab a bite to eat with some friends and enjoy the show. YAY FUCKING YAY!

Tattoo is still healing nicely. I worked out today and my leg was F.I.N.E....no not just fine, I had to spell that shit. Biked my tired ass for thirty minutes. There were people in the gym today who didn't have the TV or radio on...do you know how BORING it is to ride on a goddamn bike with no entertainmental stimulation? Makes the 30 minutes seem like 90. But nonetheless, I was a trooper...and even did 20 minutes of weights. Gotta work on those guns.

And Justin's been teaching me to channel my inner-design diva...creating things for his place of employment. We hope to have some sort of business running soon. Got the name already picked out... pdx bloke & co....pretty much just "bloke"...as in "your average guy"...cuz we are! Get it? The name just kinda stuck out to us. We really researched and put some thought into this. I think we're gonna do it...watch out business world...you've never seen the likes of my ass before!

HAPPY LABOR DAY!!!!! Take some time to remember the labor movement...the folks who brought you the weekend and an end to child labor. Those brave americans have recently been more demonized than celebrated...but this country would not be what it is today without the sacrafice of the individuals within our country's labor movement...past and present. All should take a moment to think about that today. Labor Day's about more than the fucking Jerry Lewis telathon!

Wow it's been a long fucking time since I've posted anything...but contrary to popular beliefs I'm not dead! I was just working, playing, and spent some time in Michigan. I got the most hideous of skin infections after getting a tattoo done in Ypsilanti. I wound up in the ER not once but twice. I didn't get to spend as much time with my friends (apologies to those who may read this) but I was pretty sick. I spent another week off of work after getting home because the infection was still so bad. I'm finally back up and at em...not %100 healthy but damn close.

I've been taking stock of a few things lately and in doing so ended a few friendships here in PDX that were not as mutually respectful as they should have been...so I've decided to place my energies elsewhere. Life is too short to fuck around with people who treat people like shit. Plain and simple. But it feels good to be rid of the burden of negative people. It's almost like finally taking the biggest dump that you'd been forced to hold against your will...instant relief and reduction of pressure. You can finally breathe easily and realize that cleaning house is good sometimes.

I had a good time back home, got to see some old friends and spend some quality time with the family. No matter how different I may feel from them sometimes...it's still my base. I do love living in Portland, and I do NOT have any plans to move back to the midwest in my lifetime, but nonetheless it was really nice to mingle with the inhabitants. Midwest people are the best and I stick by that fully. Sometimes the folks in that area of the country seem a little sheltered, uncultured, and short sighted...but ones you meet who are intelligent and "on the level" tend to be REALLY fucking cool. I get kinda tired of the "west coast arrogance" that some folks in these parts can display from time to time...but again, overall the people in the northwest are great as well.

Woo hoo...fucking hot hot hot! Just baking this early afternoon in my apartment. Closed up like there's a goddamn nuclear holocaust going on outside. Windows all closed tightly, blinds drawn, trying to retain last nights minimal drop in temerature. But that's life in an un-airconditioned brownstone apartment when it's 103 degrees outside. Unfortunately today this method doesn't seem to be working quite so well...most likely cuz it's been this friggin hot for almost 3 days now.

I've been getting my money's worth from the season pass me and my sexy man bought for a local swimming area last month. It's kinda gross swimming in a big river that occassionally has large ships sailing by, but the waters not too bad and the surrounding area is amazing. Scenery can make or break a swimming hole and this place has big rolling hills enclosing a massive river. Getting ever more used to swimming in the buff. CRAZY NAKED SWIMMING SUMMER IN OREGON 2006!!!

Been following the news, but nothing of too much interest of late. Shrubby continues to screw the country...his latest contribution to the decline of an empire is his by vetoing the funding of stem cell research. Mind you this has been his ONLY PRESIDENTIAL VETO TO DATE. And it seems the jackass is still as unpopular as shit.

The ever-so-pleasant middle east remains not near the top of my vacation destination list this summer. The battle rages on between Israel & Hezbolla/Lebanon. And in the meantime...increased violence in both Iraq and Afganistan. Great to see that our attempts at spreading peace to the middle east VIA democracy is working so well. I think the neo-cons completely underestimated the sectarian strife that exists in that part of the world. How can so many people in such a close proximity hate each other so much and for so long? Over NOTHING. And how could our "leaders" have ingored that little fact, light the powder keg. All I know is that we need to pull our people out of there as SOON as humanly possible...and that will not happen until the democrats are in power. Here's to 2008. And all you fuckers better vote!

Attention, attention...Elvis is back in the building! So wow, just sitting here at my computer trying to acclamate to the reality of being flung back into civilization after spending the last four days blissfully existing at this year's Oregon Country Fair. The "Fair" is one of those annual hippie festivals-meets-woodstock like eutopia-meets-artistic vendors-meets-mardi gras-meets-freak show-meets-progressive thinking...and it's fucking amazing. There's music, food, various goods and/or services, naked people, painted people, poetry, random parades & drumming, and a very distinctive sense of community. I know...hippie, froo-froo, mystical treehuggers...but at least they live their lives (for the most part) trying to make a positive mark on this world. And we were a community, a community of different groups within the nations "counter-culture" getting together to remind each other that we're part of a family, to remind each other that we're not alone in today's political climate.

It was really nice to be exposed to so many like minded people in such an amazing environment. And I appreciate seeing how many of us in this land don't fit into the conservative culture's "prescribed societal norms", and thank fucking god for that. For the most part Conservatives blow. More libertarian conservatives are OK...but anyone who is truley libertarian could in NO WAY support the policies of the current republicans. But the ignorant conservatism...bordering on religious fascism...tends to be the flavor of the day. I honestly do feel sorry for many of these misguided souls who support the Bush regime, where the fuck are their brains? This brand of conservative are really miserable creatures...they are so angry, so scared, and so desperate...not a place I'd like to live out of. It takes alot of energy to be that negative for that much of one's existence, and doesn't allow for you grow as a person...to learn.

It's much more freeing to be a progressive. But the conservatives of today try and paint such a nasty picture of the liberals...I mean look at the crazy ideas these leftists are pushing. To try and understand things rather than just judging everything and blaming people...damn liberals. Wanting to help others rather than only helping yourself and your closest allies...dirty liberals. What sick minds they have! Not wanting one group's religious beliefs to dictate the laws which ALL others must live by...fucking liberals. Wanting to have a working, respectful, and civilized relationships with other nations in the world to maintain global stability...cocksucking liberals. I mean without conservatives...our country wouldn't be at war right now! And then where would we be? Its not like anyone in this country ever goes without...right?

WHAT A BUNCH OF FUCKING IDIOTS! Are they insane? Honestly, could you ever see the Repulican Party nominating a WOMAN, let alone a BLACK WOMAN as their national Presidential candidate!!!! The base of the GOP would go ballistic. Idaho would cecede from the Union! Remember folks, a LARGE portion of Republican voters are BIGGOTS and quite frankly would NEVER vote for a black candidate. Has the press gone crazy to ignore the underlying fact that many southern and rural "Republicans" vote for the party due to it's current and historical courting of the racist vote. They would literally abandon the party if a black woman ran for president under the GOP ticket. The "ignorace voting block" is one of the main factors in what has helped to keep the conservative bastards in power. Republicans NEED the racist, sexist, homophobic, "good ol'boy" vote...or they'd be nothing but a bunch of rich folks fucking over the working man. So the big day is over, I am now officially living the final year of life in my 20's. The train has left the station and the next stop is the big 3-0. Had a great party, AMAZING FOOD and wonderful company...it was pretty fancy with grilled pork, chicken, and professional style decoration and presentation. It was my first "classy, adult party"...fitting for my 29th bash. And honestly, I'm looking forward to my 30's...a little time to recover from the turbulance of my 20's...let the roots I've planted grow a bit firmer in the ground. Don't get me wrong, I've loved the "roller-coaster ride" that has been my 20's...but I'm ready for some peace and a bit more serenity in my everyday life.
As I see it, the 20's are truly the time to find yourself. A DIFFICULT, long-ass journey of self discovery and establishing yourself as an adult in this world. For me they've definitely been a whirlwind. In a nutshell, I was off to college, coming out, traveling, various relationships, studying in europe, moving across country, establishing a career, searching for a life partner, graduate school, and then even more furthering of my career...and trying not to fuck up ROYALLY or get lost along the way. Constantly attempting to find the correct mix of work and play, with play winning out a bit more than it should have...but hey, it was the 20's right! I have my whole life to work. I'm a firm believer in enjoying your youth while your young, and I can truly say that I have...and will for some time to come.
So many folks have babies too early and kinda map out much of their future, making it alot harder to pursue goals that may involve moving away from extended family. With kids in the picture, having support from kin-folk is a LIFE SAVING necessity. So I'm not at all trashing that way of living, but I also knew that it was not for me. I had to leave Michigan and thank God for my persuation...cuz the way I bumped uglies through college, a hetero-me would have definitely pro-created by now and that would have completely altered my path.
I may want a kid some day, and if I so choose chillins'....I want to make sure that I've sown my wild oats BEFORE they pop into this world. I also want to be financially stable enough to not worry about funds and I've got a ways to before that's a reality...but I'm on the road.
So nuff said, it has been a smooth transition into my 29th year. I have a great home in a wonderful city, an amazing partner, family and friends, and a challenging (yet fulfilling) job that propels me to become better at what I do. What more could I ask for at this point in my life. Nata-mucho.

FUNNIEST FUCKING STORY IN THE WORLD! Rush"the junkie" Limbaugh was caught with an illegal prescription of VIAGARA and detained at the Palm Beach airport for 3 and 1/2 hours. What a "dart de dart". Couldn't have happend to a nicer person! Enjoy the free press asshole!

It's been so freaking hot here....HUNDRED fucking degrees. I went swimming twice last weekend. Once to the nude beach on the Columbia River and once to a random river. Stayed in my trunks at the nude beach though, but saw lot's of ass. As a general rule, most ass at the nude beach is NOT pretty ass, but I wasn't there to scope out hot ass so it was all good. I truly believe it's pretty gross to cruise for a hook-up at a nude beach, but more power to those who do...no judgement here...whores. So Oregon is one of two states that allow's full nudity in public(the other is Hawaii), as long as it's not for expressed sexual purposes and your not "arroused". NO WOOD IN THE WALKWAY! And NO, people don't just walk around the streets naked, but women do go topless at some marches. So with the full frontal frenzy option legal and available, there are not one but two nude beaches within a half hour of the great city of Portland. Yet another perk of the town. People out here are a bit more lax about their bodies, and a bit more in touch with nature in general. So after moving here, it was inevitable that I would too partake in this "forbidden fruit" known as public skinny dipping. So a few years ago I did take the plunge, swam my little naked ass all'round northwest Oregon. It's rather freeing to actually strip down, throw caution to the wind and jump in that water. Being from the mid-west it took me a while before I could do it. Had SUCH a hard time letting go of my inhibitions enough to be nude on a public beach. One thing that struck me was how NOT sexual the experience of being on a nude beach is. You realize that people are people...we're all pretty funny looking naked so it's a humbling experience and there's really no mean attitude between the nudists. Strut yo' stuff honey...life's too short to only share your god-given assets with just a select few...fly that freak flag proudly! One of the beaches, the one I'll actually swim nude at, is much more private than the other. You can actually get a fairly secluded spot to spread your stuff out with high enough grass height and trees to feel like a little room with a doorway to the river. But you still have the ocassional naked person walk by, and nod hello....naked. It's definitely a weird and surreal experience at first but what is even stranger is how "not weird" it becomes...and fast. Long live the people-hood of the naked! Yay for Oregon and their tollerance of the buff, it's what makes the NorthWest it's own universe!

Going out today to do some landscaping/yardwork and make a bit o'cash. It's pride weekend in Portland, so we're heading out to the parade tomorow. It will be Justin's first...poppin' that cherry! Then we're going out to Seattle next weekend for their pride celebration, camping at a hotel. June is the official "yay to be gay" month, time to celebrate those homosexual tendancies and let your freak light shine. Had a good week, nothing major to rant about. Getting kinda close to my B-day on the 1st, I'll be turning 29....knocking on 30's door. I'm not scared to get older, I have many years left to make my waves...but 30 is a strange milestone. All is good though, I plan on being VERY HOT well into my 50's! And that's what's important right?

Speaking of health, my doctor ran my cholesterol and "liver levels" on me about a week and 1/2 ago. I guess the good thing is I haven't recieved an urgent phone call demanding an appointment. It was the first time I've ever had my cholesterol done...and I'm a bit nervous because my diet tends not to be the healthiest. I HATE most veggies, and my favorite foods are fried foods, McD's (but not recently...I've cut out fast food!), cheese, cheese, eggs, and more meat, butter. CARDIAC NIGHTMARE. So, I'll keep everyone updated when I get the results.

Good news is that I've been able to keep going to the gym for a month now. I use the cop gym at work...free and I can usually fit in an hour sometime during my work day. My ass is looking great though...still a way's to go but much better than before. Gotta love narcicism, but I am a gay male...almost always comes with the territory! Alot of straight men should pay just a bit more attention to their appearance. So many get married and completely let themselves go. Which is horrible for your health and for the environment...ugly is taking over this country! Gay men rarely have that luxury...we judge other men constantly....the same way men judge women and we're just as cruel. Check out this sad story about two 17 year old gay teens executed in Iran last year...simply to remind the world of how the Middle East values gay and lesbian people. They were hanged in public, like worthless animals. What a vile and disgusting display of brutality by the Iranian people. There are vigils planned to mark the year anniversary and the new Pet Shop Boy's album is dedicated to the two who where visciously killed. For as much as I criticize our government, at least I'm free to live and be "out" in society and not fear death by mob. Gay folks have a long way to go in this country, but we could have it alot worse. That's why it's so important to fight against theocracy (AKA: GW BUSH REPUBS)...we cannot have religious logic as the sole basis for laws. Otherwise we'll end up like with a christian version of the Taliban running the country, or al least large parts of our country. Do you live in the "smartest city in America"? Only if you live in Seattle. Portland comes in at #9 on the list. Check out the top ten list at MSNBC. It always cracks me up that they have to specify Portland, Oregon. I know there is a Portland, Maine...but that city only has like 45 thousand people. So when someone says "Portland" when talking about a city, shouldn't one assume it's the one with a million & 1/2 people...not 45K? THINK PEOPLE!

Dixie Chicks have halted the sale of concert tickets in about 1/4 of the of the original concerts they had scheduled in the States for their summer tour. THIS BLOWS but none are gonna be cancelled, they are just gonna possibly move to different venues. The Chicks new album has been selling exceptionally well, but radio stations (especially in "NAZI", oops...I mean "Red" States) are not only refusing to play any Dixie Chicks songs, but they're refusing to even air the concert commercials so sales have been a little slower in certain areas. See what happens when 3 company's own 90% of the country's radio stations. Blacklists are definitely back. The Portland show is still on...as are most of the concerts in more progressive states. I got my tickets already, GREAT SEATS! Got them in a pre-sale special, pretty close to the stage and I'm fucking ecstatic. Their new album is AMAZING and I highly recommend it. You can stream it for free at the Dixie Chick's MSN website. Regardless, it will be interesting to see how their travels this summer pan out. I wish them much luck...but I know they'll do fine, their so talented. It's not easy to have intelligence in country music, ESPECIALLY for women. That's a big no-no.

And finally some religious oriented news....DaVincci Code has already topped the worldwide box office gross of Passion of the Christ. Kiss that Vatican! And the movie is still going strong. Jesus's suffering can pull an audience, but not as much as Jesus's potential sex life can. Gotta love human nature eh?

STORY TIME! So on my wonderful commute to work this morning I encountered somewhat of an urban myth, completely real and in the flesh, right before my eyes. You know, the "middle aged, balding, white man in a little red sports car, with attempted psuedo-machismo/I'm still a bad ass/beware of my road rage" guy. Look mommy, there is a santa clause!

So anyhoo, I got onto the highway into the fast lane (*yeah baby*...always the fast lane for me!) when I pulled behind this "my dick is small and I hate my life but look at my exensive car" vehicle. I guess I was a little too close for his comfort because he started waving his hands out his sunroof as to tell me to back off. So knowing me, I got a little closer...kept singing to my music and ignored him. It was too early, I didn't care if he was angry, and HE WAS IN THE FAST LANE FOR CHRIST's SAKE. We were all in bumper to bumper traffic so I thought "GET OVER IT YOU MORON and shut the fuck up already!" But honestly I was NOT tailgating the man...that is until he started waving his hands like a go'damn re-re, then I couldn't resist getting just a tad bit closer to piss his yuppie ass off just a smidge more. What can I say, I'm a button pusher!

So then he starts slowing down, but I don't budge. Eventually he got over and when he was next to me was waving his hands, giving the finger and basically freaking out. So I never turned my head towards him, kept singing and doing my little driving dance, basically ignored him. NOTHING makes "middle aged, balding, my dick may be small but my car is expensive" guys more angry than ignoring their so-called rage. I mean think of the obstacles middle aged, straight, white, wealthy men have in our society these days! Now that's untapped anger! So he fell back a bit, but deep in my heart of hearts, I knew he'd be back...and of coarse he didn't disappoint.

Now on his second venture, he pulls up next to me...rolls down his window...and starts screaming and giving me the finger AGAIN. So I look over, start laughing, gave him the finger and moved my finger in a circle on the side of my head to let that fucking nutcase know what a stupid asshole lunatic he was being. He was so beat red and lordy-fucking-shitballs was he angry. I had the best laugh just based on his facial expression alone. Usually Oregon drivers are pretty calm and collected, but every once in a while you get the asshole in a sports car. Guess this morning was my luck day. NO GUTS NO GLORY!

So I was driving home from work today on the freeway on my wonderful 45 minute commute into town. And I approached this big white van with big posters in the back window. As I got closer, I saw there were two signs. The first had a picture of John Kerry and said "traitor to America" & "taliban loves Kerry". The other sign had a picture of Bush and said "Arabs for Bush" and a few other stupid pro-shrubby comments. There was also a picture of Bush on the side of the van. When I pulled up to the van, it was an Arab, dressed in full garb...with a long black beard, head-dress, and black "terminatoresque" sunglasses. HOW ODD. So of coarse I get in front of him with my "SUPPORT OUT TROOPS: BRING THEM HOME NOW", "CAUTION: I DON'T BREAK FOR RIGHT WING NUTJOBS" & "PARTNERSHIP FOR AN IDIOT FREE AMERICA" stickers on the back of my little bubble car. So the man gave me the thumbs down signal. So I gave him the ol' one finger salute out my driver side window. Gotta love portland eh....takes all types, right?

Happenings in my life...

It's been a pretty good week. I had some unexpected visitors in town Wednesday night. I got a call from my sister-in-law telling me that she and my nephew Jacob (5th grade) were gonna be in Portland on a "Lewis and Clark" train trip they were doing with Jacob's school. So they participated in a 9 day train trip, tracing the adventures of the historic duo...but they quickly learned that AMTRACK SUCKS. They arrived in Portland 6 hours late, and had to completely skip all of their activities in Salem earlier in the day. Regardless, I got to see them when they arrived at their hotel in Oregon City (a few miles south of Portland). They got to meet my partner (as did about 100 other folks on their trip). Then on thursday we (me and my partner) attended one of their activities and then we snagged Angie & Jacob for about 2 hours before they had to be at the train station. I got to show them where I live, and a few of Portland's brighter spots. Needless to say they really liked it here. Living in Michigan is not that rewarding at this point. Most cities are dying and young people are fleeing the state in record numbers. I'll make left-coasters out of someone in my family before I die...that's a goal. But anyways, it was really refreshing to see some family. It's hard living this far away from your "base", but I've managed to create a family here...but it's still not the same. It will be even more complete when my lesbian sister Sara & her partner Kelly get their asses out here...12 months and counting.

Work has been busy. Lots o'crazy people at the jail. That place definitely keeps me on my toes and gives me the best stories at dinner parties. Over the months, I've found my footing with the deputies. It was a rough start...I mean there wasn't really anyone like me working at the jail (young gay male, political, pierced, visible tatoos, liberal bumper stickers, yet still masculine...they didn't know what box to put me in). But over the 17 months I've worked there, I have "proven myself"...and now they treat me well. But I did have a pretty hard 8 months when I started. Proof that all ends well when there's good intentions and ability, AKA..I rock at my fucking job and they know it! :) I did stand my ground, attained good status at that place without kissing ANY correctional staff ASS. I did it on my terms...cuz I'm a stubborn bastard and will not bow to anyone. Must be those pesky midwestern values!

Well folks, with mid-term elections coming soon, you all know what time it is....it's the "Out With the Hate Propaganda So We Can Manipulate the Values Voters" season yet again. Yes people, the BIG EVIL REPUBLICAN BRAIN is at it again due to the fact that the general public has been consistently showing in multiple polls that Republicans are not so popular right now, I mean AT ALL. Americans may be slow, but if you take a big shit on the constitution (as the Republicans have) and fuck up so consistently, we will eventually catch on and you will be held responsible. And since the Re-pugs control everything, we know who to blame this time around. So now the neo-cons are in all out desparation overdrive for this political season. They know they're in trouble, BIG trouble, and like any good, savy, and completely unethical businessmen...they're going for the jugular. The GOPhers have shown their tendency to appeal to the lowest common denominator, be viscious and hateful, and basically do anything to win a seat regardless of the collateral damage caused or ethics broken. And their newest campaign has begun, aiming to distract the public (via the media) from what's really going on in the country. Its their new attempt to take our attention away from a few of their more "vulnerable issues", such as WAR! ECONOMY! BRIBES! SPYING! DISAPPEARING CIVIL LIBERTIES! PERSONAL DEBT! THE WORLD HATES US, LITERALLY THEY ALL HATE US! And on to more pressing threats to the American way of life, you know...diversity.

The behind the scenes Neo-Con pupeteers realize November is not that far away, and its time to make sure the "politically uninformed-working class-going against my own economic interests-socially conservative-white" contingent get out to the polls. The republican think-tank folks are betting on the notion that they can assure several valuable republican victories by dangling some extremely devisive and sensational issue in front of the working class "middle America" folks, living in the hearland and suburbs. So this issue must be a controversial yet tabloid-esque, a passion enducing issue that's hot enought to make national news and have a bit of longevity. Then the issue is to be continually dissected and repeated by certain right wing radio personalites & FOX News, and eventually the other networks follow suite. This gives the issue coverage of some sort every night on the television/media durring the four to five months prior to the election. And this years theme is double pronged. No longer are the Republicans just content going after the gays openly, their getting back to their true roots and going after those scary brown people. The republicans are appealling to not only homophobia this time around, but their appealling to blatant racism, disguised as nationalism, by attacking the undocumented Mexicans living in this country. People who were repeatedly invited by the corporate industry that funds Republican politicians. How ironic, or actually...how hypocritical.

So this season marks the return of the Republican attempt to pass a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, regardless of what states decide for themselves. This bill has absolutely NO chance of passing the Senate as the few true conservatives in the Senate don't support it's infringment on state's rights, and Democrats oppose the bill all together. This same bill failed HUGELY two years ago, but nonetheless this sad amendment is being toated out yet again to appease the religious bigots in the country. But I must say HUGE FUCKING RESPECT to Senator Russ Fiengold (D-Wisconsin) who stood up to this hateful anti-gay rhetoric and walked out on a judiciary meeting in disgust of what the GOP was doing. Senator Fiengold has been a true friend to the queer community, and he is a true progressive, he's the real deal. He has intentions on going for DC in 2008, and I will be supporting him for the Democratic nomination. But anyhoo, back to the new GOPropoganda at hand. So you see folks, the Republicans aren't so sure that the gay-bashing vote will be enough this time to drive their base to the polls, so they need another "threat to americans" card to play. Hence, now it's open season on the immigrant population. As John Aravosis at America Blog put so eloquently, "Mexican" is the new "Fag".

All of the sudden politicians started bringing up all of this "Immigration Crisis" shit, then it started to get more coverage in the news. I mean don't get me wrong, I do think there is a problem regarding immigration in this country, and the border does need to be secure. NO border is healthy that allows a steady stream of people to pass through unchecked. But the problem lies in the people who are hiring and exploiting these folks for little pay. Although this "crisis" has been going on for several decades, and COMPLETELY embraced by the business & corporate republicans in a hush-hush fashion...but now it had suddenly become an "immediate threat to our livelihood". Conservatives started to portray the image of the "evil Mexican", lurking in the shadows to steal your job and have multiple children, and eventually take control of the country! This was much like the picture they created of the "evil homosexuals", demanding their special rights, recruiting your children, and out to sabotage tradional families....and eat your babies! AHHHHH! Anyway you frame it, they are basically trying to justify hatred and fear, bigotry

As much as I don't like to admit it, the neo-cons are pretty smart. They were well aware of the fact that the whole immigrant population living in America has been a "sleeping giant" in this country for a while now...and by passing a bill that literally makes FELONS out of THESE PEOPLE, simply by being here undocumented was the stick that woke this giant. A stick held firmly by the GOP, and it was lashed with the specific intent to cause all of the reaction that we saw unfold the weeks after that piece of legislation was approved by the HOUSE REPUBLICANS. They wanted those demonstrations to put a little fear into middle America. And it has recently come to light that the White House was directly involved in the crafting of this bill, especially some of the more controversial segments of the bill. But Bush then came out strongly, and I mean STRONGLY against the bill as soon as it was passed and got some publicity. This was his attempt to seperate himself from the demonstrations that occurred in most major cities after this legislation was passed. This was a major manipulation of the media, the immigrant population, and the legislative process. But I believe this has backfired on the Republicans...the whole thing.

I hope it's not just wishful thinking, but I think the American voter has started to see through the smokescreen and will not be fooled by these tactics. Republicans have lost SO MUCH clout in the South due to their bungling of Katrina and the loss of New Orleans. I don't think there is anything they can do to get their credibility back in the minds of many as the public has remembered that Republicans value corporate interests over human interests. And global warming has started to come true, and its undeniable even to middle America....after the GOP spent so much time minimizing the problem and calling it at lie. And I don't think the Republicans counted on the Church being so critical of the immigration bill, and also the progressive decent that has gained traction within the Christian community has become more vocal. Blue collar Americans have started to wake up, and this latest Republican ploy will not prove enough to save them.

Maybe I'm giving the Conservative Movement too much credit, but based on what we've seen them pull off over the past 6 years, I don't doubt anything anymore. Sadly the Democrats are too fucking ethical to win elections that way, but I think we're getting better at it, and I do believe we will win this November. We've realized that by taking the highest road, you don't always get there first...but you do eventually get their and our time is now. Progressives have been making changes on how we play the politcal game with a bit more tact, keeping our honor, ALOT MORE BITE, and we're ready to kick some Republican ASS! America is screaming for change, we have buyers remorse over the Republican's running this country...and November is our chance to right that wrong.

You see, in Saginaw, Michigan...there was no station that would carry Howard's radio show so I never really had an idea of what he was actually doing on radio, I just knew that he was turning the world of radio on it's head. So I mainly learned about Howard from various clips, stories, and of course his memorable "fartman" MTV awards show performance amoung other things. I read his book Private Parts after recieving it for my 14th birthday from my best friend Tonya, and the book was fucking hillarious....I definitley got it. Howard was brilliant, honest, he was a bit of a pig, but most importantly he put it all out there in a way that noone else had. He was a fucking oddball nutcase, a sort of groundbreaking genius in the rough. Howard new how to push all the right buttons, maybe take it to the brink of "too far" but found a way to make everything human and most importantly he made every bit on this show real. After moving to Portland in 2000, I discovered his show on local radio here. It was the # 1 rated show in all of Portland. I listened, enjoyed, couldn't believe what I was hearing...but I was hooked. Then 9-11 happened, and Howard kinda got weird for a while. But he's a New Yorker, born and raised, and you could tell how shaken he was. After the attacks, Howard kinda turned really pro-Bush...which for someone who was so fucking risque, almost smut peddling at times, it was really fucking weird. He bashed Democrats, almost advocated for the war, and took a really harsh stance towards the Dixie Chicks when they make their stand against Bush. But it didn't take long for him to wake up to the hoodwink that the GOP was running on us all. By 2003 Howard was back, and slowly gaining his renegade status and fighting the religious zealots, clearchannel, CBS, and the rest of the establishment. And since his move to Sirius Satelite Radio, his show has only gotten better. You kinda have to listen to the show to really understand what it means to be a fan...it's weird. Like belonging to some cult...but it is a beautiful thing. I mean, this morning on my way to work I listened to an 83 year old woman sit on a huge fucking vibrator for the first time. Weird as shit, but again...he does it cuz he can, and because our constitution says that he can.

Is it just me or has ABC World News Tonight gotten alot better lately. Maybe they've grown a pair after having their star anchor Bob Woodruff blown up in Iraq. I've been very pleasantly surprised by the coverage lately and Elizabeth Vargas actually kicks ass in the anchor chair. Hopefully Woodruff will be back to work soon, but in the meantime the story content has been better than the other networks. Yes, I actually watch multiple news sources, at least check out their lead stories. The American press is a weird thing, but it has been bouncing back as far as what stories they're covering. A little less celebrity gossip shit slurping "news", and a bit more of the facts. I know "government" is a boring topic to most of the general public, but if framed the right way and presented as topics that directly affect the American citizens life....people are a little smarter than they and will pay attention. We will demand answers. Its kinda like the public is waking up from three years of fear. And I think the internet bloggers have done more than most know. Stories have made it into the national spotlight from the bottom-up. That hadn't happened in many ways since the 70's. The end of the fairness doctrine is what really did it.

It FUCKING SUCKS that gas prices are so high right now. I am one of those Americans that spends about 1 & 1/2 hours on the road commuting to work five days a week and this spike in prices is fucking with my wallet. I can take transit (bus then train) which makes my commuting time 3 hours a day which is WAY TOO FUCKING LONG! But working as a mental health specialist in a jail setting can make transit more complicated and VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. I did have about 3 months where I was forced to take transit dialy to work, and I saw Inmates from the jail almost every day. And some were definitely NOT following their medication regimen, and there is potential for real problems when they see me. At least the cops get to carry a gun, not me. I'm just there waiting for some angry, psychotic, meth junkie to take out that days anger on me. So I'm kind of a slave to the Petroleum (slapping the inside of my elbow).

Got a little distracted, Godfather another daySo I forgot about the new episode of the Surreal Life with Alexis Arquette, tv's only true life tranny! This season is not bad, so unfortunately, the Godfather is put off yet again. Caught her on the GLAAD awards with Rosana and Patricia Arquette. I'm so proud of that family putting so much on the line in the name of civil rights and visibility. Hats off to Alexis, you have made a lifelong fan in me.

And now, I'm sucked into the comercial-less Tori Spelling show So Notorious, which is actually soooo fucking funny. I love self-deprication, and this show pushes some boundaries. The flashback scenes from her childhood are priceless! I truly believe this show deserves a primetime shot. I'd be willing to bet that it could hold an audience.

Doing my annual "Godfather 1" viewing. Two is my favorite, but my partner hasn't seen ANY of them so we're starting tonightwith the first. Just finished some BBQ pork, twice baked potato's with bacon & cheese, and corn. I may be an Oregonian now but my taste buds are still %100 midwestern! So I'm missing some of my friends from the midwest tonight, I mean although I have no desire to live in Michigan at this point in my life (and realistically will probably never live there full time again), I am nonetheless proud have been spawned in that state. People from Michigan will air their shit, no problem, within the first few hours of knowing them. All on the table, take it or leave it. That trait is priceless, and I didn't actually realize that until I moved to the west coast. People out here are harder to get to know, they present as more complex but I think it's mostly just more guarded. Sometimes I miss the bluntness and honesty of the midwest, asscheeks and all. People who live in Portland tend to be from somewhere else, it's one of "those" cities. Like Seattle, New York, LA, SanFran, Boston...the locals are usually outnumbered by the transplants. So the point of it all is that I am proud of my Michigander roots....oh, and I'm watching the Godfather! Take care all.

Portland, Oregon is a great fucking city to live in. We're finally having a little spell of good weather and I'm getting ready to head out onto the town. Great people, wonderful environment, several places to hang out, and breathtaking views in every direction. Yes the constant rain does get to you after say the fourth or fifth month, but there are usually enough little "gem days" of sunshine to sustain your sanity through the rainy season. And the Portland summers are the most amazing I've ever experienced. Hot and dry, very little rain, very little humidity. Certain parts of the city do tend to be a bit trendy at times, but most of the people you encounter througout the city are still fairly friendly and approachable....especially in comparison to other big cities on the west coast. Portland is kinda like a city of towns. Each individual neighborhood having their it's own identity and flavor, it's own core "main street". That's what keeps this city the strange city of weirdness America has come to love. We're kinda like Seattle and SanFrancisco's illegitimate love child that was raised by the wolves on nuts and berries. I do wish it were a bit more diverse, it is one hell of a white city, but the population is growing and rapidly changing. It has an almost euphoric functionalism about it. There are so many different types of people, with the same problems that most large groupings of people would experience in a city setting. But it's unusually safe, and pretty friendly to diversity. I've lived here 6 years, and I still love it. Heading out to the sunshine, play in the park.

Media to ignore most gay bashing.

For the most part, the American "Mainstream Media" has largely ignored most hate crimes against gay, bi, lesbian, and transgender folks in this country, but somthing recently happened in St. Maarten that has gathered a bit of attention. The vicious gay bashing of American tourists on the island of St. Maarten, has created some buzz not really because of the nature of the crime, but because two of the vicitims of the bashing work for CBS news in New York City. Not only has the initial blatant disregard of the crime by the local police been spotlighted, get a load of what the local paper's editorial board had to say (via GLAAD) about this hateful and violent assault of American citizens. One of these men was nearly killed and has permanent brain damage, this is SERIOUS. We cannot let this blatant homophobia go unanswered.

UPDATE: Looks like there may have been some arrests made in the case. I guess the police department can really change it's approach when a spotlight has been shined directly on it. Again, thanks to the internet for helping to keep this story alive.

So the state of Montana continues to amaze me. Who would have the that the "long-conservative" state of Montana would be on the cutting edge of progressive politics. Methamphetamine is the new crack....but MUCH worse. As someone who works in the mental health field in a jail setting, probably 80% of the folks I deal with are meth addicts...and most are so young. This is truly a crisis in our society, especially out here in Oregon where we've got one of the worst meth problems in the country. The current correctional system is failing these people. They often leave the jails with more criminal knowlege and better drug "hook-ups" than when they arrived. We may have been able to win that senate seat if our voter drive wouldn't have been crippled, but these illegal tactics made sure that victory wouldn't happen by breaking the law. The phone jamming was bought and paid for by the state's republican party officials. The folks who perpetrated this action were actually found guilty in a court of law of commitng a crime AND WERE DIRECTLY BOUGHT AND PAID FOR by the state's republican party. And phone records show that these individuals also called the WHITE HOUSE DIRECTLY several times in the days before the phone sabotage. So read this little tid bit about the DIRECT link between the man convicted of this crime and the white house. They can run & hide, but they can't hide forever....thank you technology.
